We are recruiting on behalf of our client, an international leader in low-carbon energy and battery storage solutions, for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Projects & Design Team in Manchester. This is a key role for our client requiring a design ‘all-rounder’ with power generation sector experience and someone capable of handling projects from start to finish.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and technical delivery of innovative energy projects. These include Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Tri Generation, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
You will work across the full project lifecycle—from concept to commissioning—developing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, specifications, and functional design documentation. You’ll also lead CAD coordination and ensure designs are safe, compliant, and cost-effective.
Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities
Create and review detailed mechanical designs for power generation systems
Generate specifications, P&IDs, functional and technical documents
Perform pipe and pump sizing calculations, safety assessments, and layout surveys
Coordinate internal and supplier CAD design activity
Oversee supplier performance and compliance with project quality plans
Liaise with stakeholders including project managers, suppliers, and clients
Support budgeting and cost-efficiency of design solutions
Provide occasional on-site technical support
Mechanical Design Engineer Essential Requirements
HNC/D or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years’ experience in power generation or energy project design
Proven technical experience in pipework and ventilation design, CDM, and health & safety
Competency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD 3D (or equivalent)
Revit experience would be beneficial
Full UK driving licence
