Technical Author – Inside IR35
Location: Christchurch, Dorset (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Contract: 6 Months
Pay: £51.97 per hour (PAYE, excluding holiday pay and pension)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Technical Author to join a small technical documentation team supporting a wide-area military communications system. The role involves producing, amending, and managing technical documentation to support the development, operation, and maintenance of the system.
Core Responsibilities

Request, gather, and assess source logistic information from equipment suppliers to inform technical publications.

Undertake Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) on electronic computing and communication systems, including various radios and masts.

Author data modules from MTA findings and other documentation, including operating procedures and training materials. This includes creating technical drawings.

Liaise with the Training Team to support training content development.

Assist in the creation and maintenance of the Data Module Requirements List (DMRL).

Author and update the full suite of descriptive, procedural, and Illustrated Parts Data (IPD) modules for the Common Source Database (CSDB).

Proofread and review data modules produced by other team members using the CSDB workflow.

Produce new Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) using trilogi software for customer delivery.

Provide general support with other Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) tasks.
Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience with technical publication specifications (e.g. S1000D 4.1, Def Stan 00-601).

Strong experience in data module authoring to S1000D 4.1 standard.

Familiarity with Standard Numbering Systems.

Experience in population and maintenance of a Data Module Requirements List (DMRL).

Proficient in technical authoring tools and techniques, ideally using EAGLE LSAR and EAGLE Publishing System for CSDB development.

Skilled in XML data module authoring, preferably using EAGLE XML editor or equivalent.

Knowledge of IETP/CSDB configuration management processes.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Familiarity with trilogi build is desirable.

Ability to create and incorporate illustrations into documentation.
