Lead Piping Engineer – Contract Role (Outside IR35)
Location: Surrey (Primarily Office-Based)
Rate: £65 per hour Ltd Co
Contract Type: Contract, Full-Time

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Lead Piping Engineer to support the FEED phase of a water treatment project. This role is based in Surrey with some flexibility, but will require regular office presence due to the scope and complexity of coordination activities.

Lead Piping Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Lead FEED-stage piping and layout engineering for onshore brownfield and greenfield scopes
  • Develop 3D CAD models for typical equipment and piping layouts using E3D
  • Manage layout development and coordination with Area Leads and Piping Designers
  • Supervise piping mechanical activities including stress and materials oversight
  • Review and guide on access, craneage, tie-ins, egress, and underground interface design
  • Prepare and review project documents, plot plans, model reviews, and MTOs
  • Coordinate closely with structural, civil, mechanical, safety, and process teams
  • Manage cross-discipline design integration and workflow
  • Ensure compliance with KOC specifications and layout standards
  • Represent the piping discipline in client-facing model reviews and feedback sessions
  • Support site visits or surveys (can be delegated)

Lead Piping Engineer Essential Requirements

  • Extensive experience in onshore plant layout and piping design, including brownfield work
  • Strong leadership background in coordinating multi-office design teams
  • Expertise in CAD modelling (E3D preferred) and piping tie-in strategy
  • Knowledge of piping stress, support requirements, and field data collection
  • Degree in Engineering (BEng minimum)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Lead Piping Engineer Desirable Requirements

  • AutoCAD experience for basic drafting or drawing interpretation
  • Hands-on CAD modelling in E3D
