We are currently looking for an Electrical Control – Engineering Specialist to join a nationally recognised regulatory organisation responsible for helping to secure safety across a wide range of UK industries. This role focuses on electrical distribution systems and complex control systems, ensuring that organisations effectively manage risk and comply with legal safety standards.
This is a very high profile, full time permanent - and a terrific opportunity for electrical candidates with a good grounding to step into a senior, high authority position focused on major Hazard Risk & Legal Compliance. There is also significant flexibility on location involved with a hybrid working pattern, site travelling - and the possibility to work out of a main office in any of the following locations: Ashford, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bootle, Bristol, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Crewe, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Norwich, Nottingham, and Sheffield.
A competitive salary is available exepcted to be around £60,000 – £66,000 per annum plus excellent benefits including a civil service pension at around 29% employer contributions!

The Role
This is a frontline specialist engineering role where you will apply your expertise in electrical and control systems to identify risks, investigate underlying causes, and drive improvements in safety performance across multiple industry sectors.
Working across a diverse range of environments, you will assess the adequacy of existing control measures, make evidence-based decisions, and influence organisations at all levels to achieve compliance with legislation and recognised engineering standards.
Key responsibilities:
• Investigating workplace electrical and control system fatalities and serious incidents to identify root causes and help prevent recurrence.
• Supporting enforcement activity and holding duty holders accountable where necessary.
• Inspecting workplaces to assess how effectively electrical and control system risks are being managed.
• Preparing technical reports and acting as a specialist or expert witness during legal proceedings, inquests, and hearings.
• Contributing to intervention strategies and industry improvement programmes aimed at reducing electrical hazards and improving control system safety.
• Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to promote best practice and continuous improvement.
About You
We are seeking experienced Electrical and Control Engineering professionals who can think strategically, analyse complex issues, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
You should have strong practical experience within electrical and control system engineering, ideally gained in a senior engineering role, together with detailed knowledge of:
• High and low voltage electrical distribution systems and safe systems of work, including compliance with BS7671 where applicable.
• Electrical, electronic, programmable, and safety-related control systems used within process industries and machinery applications.
• Risk assessment, design, installation, testing, maintenance, and modification of control systems.
• Relevant standards including ISO 13849, IEC 62061, and IEC 60204-1.
• The application and use of electrical equipment within hazardous atmospheres.
You will also demonstrate:

• Sound judgement and decisiveness.
• Effective organisational and planning skills.
• The ability to produce clear and concise technical reports.
• A collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications & Professional Requirements
• Chartered Engineer status through the IET or another recognised professional body, or the ability to achieve Chartered status within one year of appointment.
• An Honours degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• A full UK driving licence is essential.
