Start Your Career in Instrumentation with Hands-On Training and Real Project Experience

We are recruiting for a Junior Instrumentation Technician to join a well-established engineering team delivering instrumentation services across a wide range of UK projects.

This role is ideal for someone who has completed an electrical apprenticeship (or equivalent) and is looking to build a long-term career in instrumentation. You’ll be working alongside highly experienced engineers and technicians, gaining practical experience across calibration, commissioning, and fault finding.

This is a hands-on, field-based role offering structured development, funded training, and exposure to varied projects and instrumentation systems. Within a few years, you’ll be well positioned to progress your career within the industry.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll support instrumentation activities across multiple projects and client sites, including:

  • Calibrating instrumentation and producing calibration certificates using company systems
  • Supporting commissioning activities on live projects
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting instrumentation issues
  • Assisting experienced engineers with site-based activities
  • Travelling to client sites across the UK as required

Training & Development

You’ll receive ongoing support and technical training from experienced engineers, including opportunities to gain:

  • Industry-recognised certifications (such as ATEX)
  • Practical commissioning experience
  • Exposure to a wide range of instrumentation technologies
  • Hands-on learning across real-world engineering environments

This is a strong foundation role for anyone looking to establish a long-term career in instrumentation.

Travel & Working Pattern

This role involves travel to client sites across the UK.

  • Travel required most weeks
  • Typically 1–2 nights away per week (sometimes more)
  • Occasional longer site visits (up to 10 consecutive nights, rarely)
  • All travel and accommodation arranged by the company
  • Paid allowances:
    • £70 per night (weekdays)
    • £100 per night (weekends)
  • Overtime opportunities available

Flexibility and willingness to travel are essential.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone with solid technical foundations and a strong work ethic who is keen to learn and develop.

Essential:

  • Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent technical qualification
  • Basic understanding of electrical or instrumentation fundamentals
  • Strong practical mindset and willingness to learn
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read or learn to read technical drawings
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel across the UK

Desirable:

  • Interest in instrumentation or engineering outside of work
(for example: electronics projects, robotics, drones, or similar hands-on interests)
  • Some exposure to calibration, commissioning, or fault finding
  • Previous site-based experience
