Contracts & Cost Control Engineer
Location: London, hybrid working

Contract: 12-Month Contract with strong possibility of extension

Day Rate Negotiable DOE - please send over your preferred rate | Work Pattern: Monday–Friday

We are currently seeking an experienced Contracts & Cost Control Engineer to support a major infrastructure project in the UK. This role will play a key part in managing EPC contracts, ensuring effective cost control, contractual compliance, and accurate forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.

Working closely with the Work Package Manager and project teams, you will oversee contractor cost submissions, validate invoices and variations, and ensure all financial and contractual aspects of the project are aligned with contract terms and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Work Package Manager in applying EPC contract terms and ensuring contractor compliance.
  • Lead the verification and approval of contractor pro-forma invoices, ensuring milestones, quantities, and unit rates are accurate and compliant with contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Project Control Department to maintain cost control and reporting accuracy.
  • Review contractor timesheets, procurement documentation, equipment logs, and cost reports.
  • Verify supporting documentation such as measurement sheets, site reports, and redline drawings with engineering and construction teams.
  • Identify and challenge any non-reimbursable or non-compliant costs.
  • Review Variation Orders (VOs) to ensure pricing aligns with contractual terms, supporting evidence, and approved benchmarks.
  • Support cost and cash-flow forecasting, highlighting risks or unsupported costs and recommending corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of invoices, cost logs, and variations, and assist with preparation of Work/Service Orders and SAP uploads.
  • Prepare and review contractual correspondence and support change management activities.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in contracts engineering and cost control on EPC projects during the execution phase.
  • Strong experience working with unit-rate reimbursable contracts or BoQ-based measurement systems.
  • Demonstrated experience producing cost and project reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of quantity measurement, BoQ interpretation, and unit-rate analysis.
  • Solid understanding of EPC contract structures and change-control mechanisms.
  • Experience using cost control systems such as SAP, Prism, or EcoSys, along with advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and construction methods.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and interpret technical, financial, and contractual documentation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple activities, and work independently.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment.
