We are recruiting on behalf of our client, an international leader in low-carbon energy and battery storage solutions, for a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer to join their Projects & Design Team in Manchester.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and technical delivery of innovative energy projects. These include Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Tri Generation, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
You will work across the full project lifecycle—from concept to commissioning—developing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, specifications, and functional design documentation. You’ll also lead CAD coordination and ensure designs are safe, compliant, and cost-effective.
Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer Key Responsibilities
• Create and review detailed mechanical designs for power generation systems
• Generate specifications, P&IDs, functional and technical documents
• Perform pipe and pump sizing calculations, safety assessments, and layout surveys
• Coordinate internal and supplier CAD design activity
• Oversee supplier performance and compliance with project quality plans
• Liaise with stakeholders including project managers, suppliers, and clients
• Support budgeting and cost-efficiency of design solutions
• Provide occasional on-site technical support
Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer Essential Requirements
• HNC/D or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in power generation or energy project design
• Proven technical experience in pipework and ventilation design, CDM, and health & safety
• Competency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD 3D (or equivalent)
• Full UK driving licence
