DATS are looking for an experienced site-based Construction Manager to support our client operating in the materials handling sector — with a requirement based in the UAE on the construction of a new crushing & screening plant.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Construction specialist experienced in working overseas and managing local & overseas labour – overcoming associated difficulties and language barriers. We are seeking a confident and proactive professional who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys taking ownership of complex technical projects. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
The Role
You’ll oversee multidisciplinary teams covering mechanical, structural, electrical, and civil construction activities. From planning mobilisation and managing contractors to leading daily briefings and ensuring compliance with CDM and Health & Safety standards, this role demands both leadership and precision. You’ll liaise closely with head office while maintaining autonomy to make confident, informed decisions on-site.
This is expected to be a 12 to 18 month project hire position and a rotational working arrangement is available - working 6 days per week based in the UAE for 10 to 12 weeks, with 2 full weeks off to follow. Accommodation & flights will be provided by the client, with any out-of-pocket expenses receipted & submitted weekly. If of interest, candidates may also apply on a residential basis with salary and packages to be discussed separately and directly with the client.
Key Responsibilities
Lead site operations with a strong focus on Zero Harm and safety culture. Review and approve RAMS, Lift Plans and construction documentation. Manage site planning, scheduling and progress reporting. Supervise operatives, ensuring work quality and compliance with standards. Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks and regular site audits. Coordinate plant, equipment, and materials to meet project milestones. Build and maintain strong working relationships across teams and contractors.
About You
You’ll have a proven background as a Construction Manager within construction or engineering in overseas environments, ideally Far East Asia or Africa, and have managed local labour forces in these situations, managing candidates from numerous different cultural backgrounds and linguistic capabilities. You will have previous exposure to materials handling, conveyors, steel construction, or industrial sites.
You’re comfortable leading teams, solving problems on the spot, and maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Strong communication and decision-making skills are essential.
Requirements
- HNC/HND in an engineering or technical discipline.
- CSCS Black Card (or equivalent).
- SMSTS and First Aid at Work certification.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with engineering drawings.
Desirable: IOSH/NEBOSH, degree-level qualification, experience in heavy engineering or commissioning, and knowledge of ATEX/DSEAR or ISO standards.
What’s on Offer
- Day rate circa £580 per day gross
- Rotational basis 10 weeks on, 2 weeks off – with all travel and accommodation provided by the client
- Training and development opportunities
