Light Machine Shop Manager

📍 Bolton

🕓 Full-time, Monday to Thursday (37 hours per week)

💰 £48,000–£52,000 per annum (depending on experience)

We’re looking for a Light Machine Shop Manager to lead a busy and established machining operation, ensuring efficiency, quality, and profitability while maintaining a safe and collaborative working environment.

About the Role

As the Light Machine Shop Manager, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day operations across the shop floor, managing order intake, scheduling, customer relations, and team performance. You’ll play a key part in maintaining high quality standards, driving productivity, and ensuring that customer requirements are met on time and to specification.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the light machine shop team to achieve operational targets.
• Ensure a safe and compliant working environment at all times.
• Meet agreed order intake, quality standards, and profit margin targets.
• Oversee work scheduling, resource allocation, and team performance.
• Prepare quotations and manage relationships with internal and external customers.
• Attend to administrative requirements of the business unit.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of ISO9000 Quality Management Systems.
• Manage attendance, timekeeping, and disciplinary matters within the team.
• Monitor and maintain machinery to ensure it remains safe and capable.
• Drive continuous improvement and maintain team performance during absences.

About You

Essential:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience within a machine shop environment.
• Strong understanding of machine tool functions, capabilities, and applications (including CNC).
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Clear and confident communication skills.
• Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of profitability and business management.
• Good leadership and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial position.
• General IT proficiency.
• Determined, adaptable, and proactive approach to work.
