Description

DATS is recruiting on behalf of a leading client specialising in pharmaceutical, life sciences, and healthcare environments. The client delivers cutting-edge cleanrooms, laboratories, and specialised facilities across highly regulated sectors.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Architectural Designer to join their team based in Lancashre. Reporting to the Principal Architect / Design Lead, you will be responsible for architectural design from concept through detailed design, with involvement in project delivery on-site when required.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex projects in highly regulated pharmaceutical and life sciences environments, collaborating closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, process designers, and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design and coordination for design and build projects within regulated environments
  • Develop designs compliant with cGMP and ISO 14644 standards for laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and cleanrooms
  • Prepare designs through RIBA stages 1 to 5, including surveys, drawings, specifications, and statutory submissions
  • Liaise with clients to understand requirements and produce outline and detailed designs
  • Ensure all design work complies with Safety, Health, and Environment legislation, including CDM regulations
  • Deliver clear, high-quality design information to support installation and quality assurance processes
  • Assist procurement by securing compliant quotations and producing procurement schedules
  • Mentor junior design engineers and contribute to continuous improvement within the design team

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum HNC in Building Studies; degree level or equivalent preferred
  • Registered Architect or working towards registration with a degree in Architecture
  • Minimum 7 years’ architectural experience, ideally with 3+ years in pharmaceutical, cleanroom, or highly regulated environments
  • Strong knowledge of GMP requirements, cleanroom design, and ISO standards
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office; BIM experience desirable
  • Proven track record delivering projects in design & build environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across disciplines
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations and experience coordinating turnkey projects
  • Customer-focused with a proven ability to engage senior client stakeholders
