We are currently looking to support our client based near Wigan with a requirement for a Process Safety Engineer on a permanent staff basis – beginning with a 6 month trial period.
The hours of work are Monday – Friday: 8am – 4pm. Annual salary - £50,000 - £60,000 based on prior level of experience and suitability.
The company are a high-level chemical manufacturing company with sites based across the North-West of England. This role is urgent and will be to start as soon as possible, with interviews expected to take place in the next few weeks.

Job purpose
The main purpose of the Process Safety Engineer is the control of all equipment on both sites to ensure they always run safely and efficiently, and to maintain and control an effective system. Any other reasonable task requested by the Directors would also be included in the responsibilities.
Responsibilities
• Working closely with process chemicals and control engineers to ensure the production plant is set up to provide maximum output and efficient running of the production facility
• Designing plant and equipment configuration so that they can be readily adapted to suit the product range and the technologies involved, taking environmental and economic aspects into account
• Instituting scale-up and scale down processes including appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration
• Assessing options for plant expansion or reconfiguration by developing and testing process simulation models
• Designing, installing, and commissioning new production machinery, including monitoring development and troubleshooting
• Optimising production by analysing processes and compiling de-bottleneck studies
• Apply new technologies
• Ensuring that potential safety issues related to the project operator, the environment, and the product are considered at all stages
• Organise and chair hazard studies
• Coordinate preparation of major hazard risk assessments
• Provide functional safety expertise to the engineering department
Skills / Knowledge / Experience
Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree or in a similar technical field, background, or qualification
Minimum of 5 years chemical experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experienced & effective problem solver, leading problem-solving teams both cross-functional and within Production, Engineering and Technical functions providing analytical solutions & effective actions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Able to multitask and be self-driven
Positive outlook and clear focus
Technically proficient in all areas of process safety and loss prevention e.g. HAZOP, PHA etc
Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Knowledge and experience of relevant H&S and Environmental Legislation
Sound knowledge of manufacturing improvement strategies and approaches (e.g. Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA etc.)
