Design Technician
Location: Great Yarmouth
Rate: £13.94 - £15.39 per hour
Duration: 12-month contract
Hours: 40 hours per week
Monday - Thursday: 07:30 - 16:30 (30-minute lunch)
Friday: 07:30 - 13:30
We are currently recruiting for a Design Technician to join a leading engineering organisation based in Great Yarmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with SolidWorks experience who is looking to develop their career within a busy engineering environment supporting the design and manufacture of specialist mechanical equipment.
The Role
The successful candidate will assist with the design and production of engineering drawings for mechanical systems and equipment. Working closely with engineering, production and project teams, you will support the development of new and existing products while ensuring designs meet project requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce engineering drawings and drafting documentation to support manufacturing and project requirements
- Design mechanical components using established engineering principles and previous design examples
- Assist with research and development activities for new products and equipment
- Create detailed schematic and process flow drawings
- Liaise with internal departments, suppliers and external stakeholders as required
- Attend production, project and technical meetings
- Provide updates on drawing progress and highlight any risks to project schedules
- Measure and sketch components within workshop and production environments
- Support fabrication activities by ensuring design intent is maintained throughout manufacture
- Identify opportunities for design improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality procedures
Requirements
- Some experience using SolidWorks is essential
- High School Physics qualification (or equivalent) required
- Experience using AutoCAD would be advantageous
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Full UK driving licence preferred
Desirable Experience
- Mechanical design or drafting experience within an engineering environment
- Experience of energy, oil & gas or industrial equipment
- Familiarity with PLM and ERP systems
- Project coordination or project management exposure

- Site-based role in Great Yarmouth
- Driving licence preferred as occasional travel between nearby sites may be required
