Senior Structural Engineer
Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days in office per week)
Rate: £38 – £45 per hour (Inside IR35)
Duration: 3–6 months+ (subject to workload and project requirements)
Security Clearance: BPSS minimum required (must be eligible to obtain clearance)
Right to Work: Must have valid UK right to work
Role Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Structural Engineer to provide interim support within a busy civil and structural engineering team. The role has been created to support current workload demands whilst permanent recruitment is underway.
You will contribute to a range of complex engineering projects across sectors such as aviation, power, defence, life sciences, and public sector infrastructure. Candidates will typically be assigned to a single sector at any one time.
This role requires a high level of technical competence, allowing you to take ownership of design delivery and provide confident, independent engineering judgement.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver structural engineering design work in line with current codes and standards

Undertake and support design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation

Carry out independent technical checks and ensure design quality and compliance

Support project delivery teams with technical input and problem-solving

Identify and escalate technical, commercial, or delivery risks where appropriate

Apply CDM regulations and ensure health and safety considerations are embedded in design work

Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to coordinated design solutions

Support delivery of projects within agreed timeframes and quality expectations
Required Skills & Experience

Chartered status (CEng via MICE or MIStructE is essential)

Strong knowledge of current civil and structural design codes and standards

Experience in structural engineering design within relevant sectors

Demonstrable understanding of CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements

Ability to produce and review high-quality technical engineering outputs

Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments

Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Sector Experience

Aviation: refurbishment, steelwork, secondary steel structures

Power: foundation design and heavy infrastructure

Defence, life sciences, or public sector infrastructure also considered
Senior-Level Expectations

Able to complete and review independent design checks with assurance

Strong awareness of project delivery principles

Understanding of commercial considerations and ability to flag risks early
