Health & Safety Advisor (Contract)

Location: Birmingham
Duration: 3–6 Months
Rate: £40–£50 per hour (Outside IR35)
Hours: 4 or 5 days per week

Our client is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support a major industrial site project in Solihull on a contract basis for an initial 3–6 month period.

This is a hands-on, site-based role focused on driving health and safety improvements, carrying out inspections, identifying risks, and coaching site personnel to promote a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company procedures.

  • Identify hazards and implement practical solutions to minimise risk.

  • Promote best practice across site operations and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide guidance and coaching to site personnel on health and safety matters.

  • Monitor and investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe behaviours.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including reporting requirements where applicable.

  • Support risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.

  • Liaise with site management and contractors to drive positive safety outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proven Health & Safety experience within an industrial, manufacturing, engineering or construction-related environment.

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Manual handling

    • Chemical handling and COSHH

    • Working at height

    • Lifting operations

    • Sharp object and workplace hazard management

  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) is highly desirable.

  • Good understanding of RIDDOR and wider UK health and safety legislation.

  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and compliance activities.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to coach and engage personnel at all levels.

  • Able to work independently while building positive working relationships across site teams.

This role would suit a proactive Health & Safety professional who enjoys being visible on site, identifying opportunities for improvement and helping operational teams maintain the highest safety standards. While this is not a management position, you will play a key role in influencing behaviours and driving continuous improvement across the site.
