Principal Structural Engineer
Location: Warwick | Hybrid Working (2 Days in Office)
Salary: £55,000–£65,000 + Car Allowance

About the Role

We’re currently looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to take on a senior leadership role delivering complex structural projects across a range of technically demanding sectors.

This position is suited to an experienced Chartered Engineer who enjoys leading teams, providing technical direction, and driving high-quality structural design delivery. You’ll play a central role in overseeing major projects, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and shaping technical excellence across diverse engineering schemes, including work within highly regulated environments such as nuclear and defence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design delivery across large projects or multiple coordinated workstreams
  • Manage and develop structural teams, ensuring appropriate resourcing and technical capability
  • Oversee the production of high-quality structural deliverables including calculations, drawings, reports, specifications, and digital models
  • Act as a technical authority, reviewing designs and ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Develop project programmes, manage budgets, and maintain effective change control
  • Support tender submissions, fee proposals, and development of technical scopes
  • Provide performance reporting and technical insights to senior leadership
  • Drive innovation, sustainability, and practical, buildable design solutions
  • Mentor engineers and support the growth and development of team capability
  • Promote safe working practices and high standards of project delivery

Team & Reporting Structure

  • Work closely with senior engineers, engineers, technicians, and graduate engineers
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple sectors
  • Provide direct leadership and line management to engineering staff as required
  • Report to an Associate Director or Associate Engineer

Requirements

Essential

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE)
  • Proven experience leading structural design teams and delivering multiple work packages
  • Strong understanding of UK structural design codes, standards, and assurance processes
  • Broad technical expertise including:
    • Steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures
    • Foundation and substructure design
    • Structural analysis and assessments
    • Site investigations
  • Experience working within complex or regulated sectors (e.g. infrastructure, defence, public sector, or similar)
  • High proficiency in structural analysis tools with the ability to review and validate complex models
  • Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting and change management
  • Proven experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments
  • Solid understanding of CDM responsibilities and structural safety
  • CSCS card
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)

Security & Eligibility Requirements

Due to the nature of the projects, candidates must:

  • Be willing and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) or higher
  • Hold British citizenship
  • Have the right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
  • Eligibility for Developed Vetting (DV) is advantageous but not essential
