Senior Finance Officer


Full Time | 37 hours per week
Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Friday: 8:00am – 12:00 noon
Location: Bolton

Salary: £38,000 – £44,000 (dependent on experience)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to support the Financial Controller in delivering accurate and compliant financial reporting. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for overseeing day-to-day finance operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, Payroll and Balance Sheet reconciliations.

We are particularly interested in candidates with several years’ solid experience in a similar role and a stable career history.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing core financial processes, supporting month-end and year-end activities, and ensuring strong financial controls across the business. This is a varied role requiring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams and ledgers
  • Oversee working capital management and produce cashflow forecasts
  • Control weekly supplier and expense payment runs in line with cashflow forecasts
  • Manage credit control to ensure timely cash receipts
  • Prepare and post monthly accruals, prepayments and other accounting entries
  • Complete all month-end Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Process payroll, including salaries and deductions, in partnership with the payroll provider
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data confidentiality
  • Provide training and development to members of the finance team
  • Support corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls
  • Assist with the year-end audit process
  • Contribute to key finance projects
  • Undertake ad hoc duties as required

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Financial Accountant or similar senior finance role
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial principles
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal
  • Proficient IT skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage workloads proactively and use initiative
  • Strong relationship-building skills, both in person and virtually

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA – part-qualified, fully qualified or qualified by experience)
  • Experience with Sage Line 50 and/or Progress Plus
