Senior Finance Officer
Full Time | 37 hours per week
Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Friday: 8:00am – 12:00 noon
Location: Bolton
Salary: £38,000 – £44,000 (dependent on experience)
We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to support the Financial Controller in delivering accurate and compliant financial reporting. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for overseeing day-to-day finance operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, Payroll and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
We are particularly interested in candidates with several years’ solid experience in a similar role and a stable career history.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing core financial processes, supporting month-end and year-end activities, and ensuring strong financial controls across the business. This is a varied role requiring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams and ledgers
- Oversee working capital management and produce cashflow forecasts
- Control weekly supplier and expense payment runs in line with cashflow forecasts
- Manage credit control to ensure timely cash receipts
- Prepare and post monthly accruals, prepayments and other accounting entries
- Complete all month-end Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Process payroll, including salaries and deductions, in partnership with the payroll provider
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data confidentiality
- Provide training and development to members of the finance team
- Support corporate governance procedures, risk management and internal controls
- Assist with the year-end audit process
- Contribute to key finance projects
- Undertake ad hoc duties as required
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a Financial Accountant or similar senior finance role
- Strong knowledge of accounting and financial principles
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal
- Proficient IT skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to work independently, manage workloads proactively and use initiative
- Strong relationship-building skills, both in person and virtually
Desirable
- Relevant qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA – part-qualified, fully qualified or qualified by experience)
- Experience with Sage Line 50 and/or Progress Plus
