Assistant Estates Manager
Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Location: Multi-sited role, based in Kent
Salary: £ 41,988 per annum
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Assistant Estates Manager to support the effective management of maintenance, caretaking and cleaning services across the organisation’s Western sites, with occasional support to Northern sites as required.
Reporting to the Estates Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring estates operations run smoothly, safely and cost-effectively, using the online Estates Helpdesk system to allocate, monitor and complete work to agreed deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise the day-to-day work of maintenance and caretaking staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to standard
• Oversee the local cleaning team at the Hadlow site, contributing to operational decision-making
• Contribute to the review and delivery of the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme
• Prepare specifications, tender documentation and basic architectural drawings for procurement
• Manage and monitor contractors on site, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards
• Support compliance with building regulations, development rules and Health & Safety requirements
• Respond to fire and intruder alarms outside normal working hours
• Arrange logistics for internal and external events, including movement and transport of furniture and goods
• Place orders, check invoices and approve payments for materials and contracted services
• Carry out Health & Safety inspections and investigations
• Support staff development and promote a strong Health & Safety culture
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as required
About You
You will have a background or qualification in building craft, surveying or Health & Safety, with a solid understanding of building maintenance and compliance.
Essential knowledge and experience:
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations (or willingness to become fully conversant)
• Broad knowledge of building construction and maintenance
• Understanding of modern Mechanical & Electrical systems and Building Management Systems
• Experience working to tight deadlines and managing maintenance programmes within budget
• Proven experience managing contractors and external suppliers

• Flexible approach to work, including occasional offsite travel
• Clean driving licence with access to a vehicle during working hours
• Physically fit and comfortable in an active, hands-on role
• First Aid at Work certificate (desirable)
