Description

A vacancy has arisen within the Technical Services team for a Control & Instrumentation Engineer. The role reports to the Section Head of CE&I and CMS and offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects within a highly regulated environment.

About the Role

You will be responsible for delivering control and instrumentation engineering activities in line with the highest health, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing detailed technical documentation, including equipment functional specifications and control system logic specifications
  • Developing specifications and logic simulation programs for control system design and performance simulation
  • Generating specifications for control system hardware
  • Working with subcontractors, including checking and approving detailed design drawings
  • Reviewing suppliers’ test specifications and attending factory acceptance tests
  • Liaising with the Section Head and other specialist engineers to fully understand engineering requirements and ensure successful delivery
  • Preparing and presenting information for technical reviews
  • Undertaking customer-facing activities, including presenting design information and demonstrating equipment or software at customer sites
  • Analysing plant process, commissioning and test data to identify performance and efficiency improvements
  • Developing and maintaining core reference design standards for control system design
  • Supporting the development of project proposals, including schedules and cost forecasts
  • Managing project deliverables and providing clear status updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Travelling to European suppliers and other project sites as required

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience specifying or designing control systems for process-based environments
  • Ability to produce high-quality written specifications and technical reports
  • Experience working with subcontractors within a multinational organisation
  • Knowledge of PLC hardware requirements, including I/O capability, network communications and power supply
  • Understanding of control cabinet construction requirements
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as UKCA, CE and UL
  • Instrumentation design experience, including measurement range, accuracy, EMC compatibility and measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and standard SCADA design and configuration, including HMI and alarm management standards
  • Practical experience of equipment testing
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of computer literacy
  • Ability to speak French or German, in addition to English, would be advantageous
