We are seeking a Civil Engineer with expertise and experience on bridges to support our client based in Glasgow on a one year contract basis. Candidates must possess Chartered status MICE or MIStructE.
This is a 12 month contract starting in March 2026 and running for one year. The role operates inside IR35 so self employed / limited company contractors will not be able to operate. A gross umbrella rate of £540 per day is available. This will be Monday to Friday, office based 37 hours per week with site travelling involved as required. Basic BPSS level clearance will be required and if not held already candidates must be eligible to obtain this.
Requirements:
Managing concurrent projects and work programmes, including completion of the annual inspection and routine, cyclical and planned maintenance programmes for structures on routes within the unit.
Management and completion of the specialist improvement programmes as related to network structures in the unit, including high risk parapet sites, scour assessments and at risk pier assessments, Hidden Defects, Half Joints, Post-Tensioned Special Inspections and footbridges vulnerable to impact.
Undertake the Technical Approval Authority role under the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges regarding the Approval in Principle (AIP) for bridges and structures and consideration of Departures for Standard prior to submission for Chief Bridge Engineer endorsement.
Specialist technical co-ordination duties, technical advice and contribution to National Standards, Specifications, Design Guidance and Employer’s Requirements.
• Candidates must be chartered MICE or MIStructE
• They must have experience of bridge design, assessment and preferably maintenance
• This experience can be in roads or rail structures
• Local authority or other public body experience is useful but we will consider candidates from contracting or consulting backgrounds
• Project and programme management experience essential
• Good communication skills, written and oral
• Experience of managing stakeholders
