Safety and Criticality Engineer
Location: Northwest England | Salary: £65,000–£85,000 + benefits

DATS are partnering with a world-leading organisation in the nuclear and energy sector to recruit a Safety and Criticality Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, ensuring safety and licensing standards are met at the highest level.

What you’ll do

  • Perform safety analysis for nuclear and chemical hazards, including criticality assessments.

  • Carry out HAZOP, HAZAN, and HAZID studies, and support verification analyses.

  • Produce criticality safety reports, dose calculations, and project licence documentation.

  • Provide technical guidance and respond to safety-related queries from clients.

  • Apply first-principles thinking to design out hazards and optimise safety systems.

  • Support compliance activities and ensure timely completion of documentation handovers.

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in a scientific or engineering discipline.

  • 5+ years’ experience in nuclear safety or criticality analysis.

  • Hands-on experience with MONK (criticality safety) and MCNP (dose calculations).

  • Strong communication and organisational skills. Able to work with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Flexible, with willingness to travel overseas or work outside normal hours when required.

  • French or German language skills are a plus.

  • Eligible for or holding DV Security Clearance.
