EC&I Design Engineer

Immediate Start – Contract with potential to go permanent

We are recruiting an EC&I Design Engineer to support industrial compliance and engineering projects across the UK. This role is ideal for an engineer experienced in electrical, control and instrumentation design within process, chemical or petrochemical environments.

Initial engagement will run 4–5 weeks through to Christmas, with strong potential to continue through to March 2026 and the option of a permanent position thereafter.

Contract Details

• Engagement Options: Ltd company contractors or permanent employment
• Rates:
o Ltd: £35–£40 per hour
o Perm: £35,000 – £45,000
• Start: ASAP
• Duration: Up to Christmas initially, continuing to March 2026 depending on suitability

The Role
You will be responsible for delivering EC&I engineering work across both office and site projects, including project design development, installation oversight, documentation and technical support. You will work alongside project teams and clients to interpret requirements, shape engineered solutions, and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities
• Plan, coordinate and manage EC&I elements of engineering projects
• Provide day-to-day communication with clients and multi-discipline engineering teams
• Carry out site surveys, investigations and develop project design budgets
• Develop tender packages and evaluate procurement options
• Manage and oversee installation works on behalf of the client
• Produce and maintain full project documentation including:
o Single line and block cable diagrams
o Instrument and valve specification sheets
o Loop diagrams, junction box and termination schedules
o Control panel and MCC schematics and GA drawings
o Hazardous area equipment specifications and I.S. safety calculations
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of EC&I-related issues
• Ensure quality and safety systems are followed and continually improved

About You
• Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control or related engineering subject
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
• Experience working in process or hazardous environments
• Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and other basic computer programmes) 
• Competent with AutoCAD and cable sizing/design software
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Familiar with functional safety standards (BSEN 61508 / 61511)
