Safety and Criticality Engineer
Based in the Northwest | Salary circa £65,000 – £85,000 per annum, plus excellent benefits
DATS are proud to be working with a world-leading organisation in the nuclear and energy sector, seeking an experienced Safety and Criticality Engineer to join their team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in safety analysis to take on a varied and rewarding role, supporting projects to ensure safety and licensing requirements are met to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out design safety analysis, including chemotoxic, criticality and nuclear hazard assessments.
• Ensure projects meet customer and national regulatory safety and licensing requirements.
• Conduct HAZOP/HAZAN/HAZID studies and follow-up verification analyses.
• Produce criticality safety analysis and dose calculations to support customer projects.
• Review and contribute to project licence submissions and safety documentation.
• Respond to technical and safety-related queries from customers.
• Apply first-principles analysis to design out hazards and optimise safety systems.
• Support compliance activities and complete documentation handovers within agreed timescales.
About You
• Degree-qualified in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years’ experience in a safety analysis role, ideally focused on criticality analysis.
• Proven experience using MONK for criticality safety analysis and MCNP for dose calculations.
• Confident communicator, able to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Strong organisational and task management skills, delivering on time and within budget.
• Experience leading or contributing to safety assessments for complex engineering projects.
• Flexible approach with willingness to travel overseas or work outside normal hours when required.
• Knowledge of French or German would be an advantage.
• Eligible for or holding DV Security Clearance.
