Description

We are currently seeking an EC&I Design Engineer to support our client based in Runcorn.

They are a small engineering consultancy providing services to a variety of sectors – including oil & gas, power generation, renewables, FMCG, and many more. They have available openings for both permanent staff (preferred) and contract candidates. Due to the company’s size, roles would fall outside of IR35 due to the small company dispensation.

A description is given below and salaries / rates will be negotiable based on prior level of experience. Hours will be full time standard hours with the possibility for some hybrid working once candidates are fully up to speed. Periodic travelling to client sites in the local area will be necessary.

EC&I Design Engineer

RESPONSIBLE TO: Engineering Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Engineering & Design Development

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The candidate shall have a well-rounded background in electrical, control and Instrumentation engineering. Will have previous experience working on chemical and petrochemical sites within the UK. The candidate will require good site management skills and possess a good commercial awareness. The candidate shall be able to interpret the clients’ verbal or high level requirements and develop them into a complete engineered solution, will be able to carry out site survey and investigation works, will be able to develop project budgets and costs, have good communication skills and be able to liaise with the client on a day to day bases, be able to work remote from the head office on the clients site, be able to manage workload and project commitments, identify any head office resource requirements of a project and manage this accordingly.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The engineer will be tasked with delivering all EC&I elements of office and site-based projects, these responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination & management of all E&I project activities / responsibilities and for reporting into the project team
  • Communication with the client and other engineering disciplines
  • Development of engineering budgets for projects
  • Attending Project and general client meetings
  • Creating tender packages for installation works (Scope of Works)
  • Site surveying of projects
  • Issuing tenders and tender appraisals of procured items
  • Managing all installation works on behalf of the client / business
  • Coordinating with the Clients and or third-party engineering recourse
  • Assisting with plant fault finding and resolving plant production issues, which are generated from an instrument or electrical failure
  • Maintaining all E&I documentation and ensuring all new projects are handed over to the project manager or client
  • Development of E&I design which will include but not be limited to the following:

O Project Block cable and single line diagrams

O Instrument and valve data sheets (Specification of)

O Instrument Loop diagrams

O Junction box and connection diagrams

O Control Panel and MCC panel schematics and GA’s

O Specification of Hazardous area and non-hazardous area equipment

O I.S safety calculations

O Writing/assisting with control system User Requirement Specifications

O Development of Cause & effects matrix

O Various Schedules (Termination, cable, label, junction box etc.)

  • Review ways of working and where possible implement changes to improve safety and efficiency
  • Ensure Quality Management Systems are followed, managed and implemented

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Degree in either Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation & Control or HNC/HND with relevant experience
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and other basic computer programmes)
  • Able to use AMTECH Cable calculation software
  • Able to use AutoCAD
  • Familiar with DCS systems and other PLC systems
  • Experience of working in the process industry and in potentially hazardous / explosive environments
  • Be familiar with Functional Safety Systems and the requirements of BSEN 61508 & BSEN 61511

  • In order to gain further experience or to meet the company requirements, candidates may be required to work at any location within company or client sites that the company is working on.
  • To comply with the requirements of the company policies on Drug and Alcohol testing.

  • To manage staff performance using the Performance Appraisal system, ensuring that annual and interim meetings take place and objectives are agreed and actioned.

  • To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post.
