Senior Underground Designer – Contract Role (Outside IR35)
Location: Surrey (Hybrid – 3 Days Office / 2 Days Remote)
Duration: 2 months
Rate: £50 per hour Ltd Co
Contract Type: Contract, Full-Time (40 hrs/week)
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Senior Underground Designer. The role involves coordinating and producing detailedE3D models and drawings for all underground utilities, paving, and access infrastructure.
This is a hybrid role, and will require the successful candidate to work at least 3 days in the office each week.
Underground Designer Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and model in E3D to produce composite drawings for drainage, firewater, potable water, cable trenches, and other underground services
- Generate layout drawings for paving, access roads, haul/service roads, and associated infrastructure
- Guide and support junior designers, ensuring design consistency across deliverables
- Assist in the creation of project-specific job notes, guides, and training materials
- Organise schedules and resources, estimating design hours and managing overseas design teams
- Track progress against project milestones and manage drawing deliverables
Underground Designer Essential Requirements

Formal qualification in Civil or Structural Design

Minimum 10 years’ experience in underground or civil/structural design roles

Proficient with E3D, with the ability to mentor junior team members

Strong organisational and coordination skills with remote teams

Skilled in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Able to prioritise work and adapt to emerging project demands

Comfortable working independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
Underground Designer Desirable Skills

Experience with SmartPlant 3D structural catalogues, templates, and administration

Ability to generate weight and MTO tracking reports

Interest or experience in PML or C# programming for customisation
