Senior Quantity Surveyor – Permanent Role
Location: North-west (UK-wide travel to regional offices and client/vendor sites as required)
Salary: Competitive, Based on Experience
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

We are seeking a highly capable Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility for multiple frameworks and projects across the Midlands and South regions of the UK, overseeing a portfolio of up to 350 projects ranging from £1K to £5M. The successful candidate will also manage and mentor a team of three Apprentice Quantity Surveyors.

Quantity Surveyor Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage commercial delivery of projects to achieve and maintain expected contract margins.
  • Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations, variations, final accounts, subcontract payment certificates, and weekly progress/cost reports.
  • Ensure all contractual notifications are submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Produce and submit compensation event quotations and cost value reconciliations.
  • Monitor labour, plant, materials, prelims, and subcontractor costs via internal project systems.
  • Support and manage risk control measures on all live projects.
  • Support framework tenders and pre-contract work, collaborating with Key Account Managers.
  • Keep key stakeholders informed of risks, overruns, or deviations from expected commercial performance.
  • Provide periodic commercial reports (CVRs, cash flow, WIP, threats/opportunities).
  • Conduct contract reviews and support negotiation in line with internal commercial policies.
  • Offer commercial guidance to project and account teams, contributing to process improvement and innovation.

Quantity Surveyor Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong commercial awareness and contract administration skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of acting independently.
  • Strong IT skills, especially in MS Word, Excel, and MS Project.
  • Experience with ERP or operational management systems (preferred but not essential).

Quantity Surveyor Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a similar senior QS role, ideally within a projects-based environment.
  • Working towards or holding MRICS membership.
  • Sound understanding of cost management, contract compliance, and financial reporting.
