Choosing which the right agencies are for you can be a daunting task, especially when there appears to be so many in your area. Our top tips for selection, are to do your research and keep in mind the following:
Are you with the right agency? Many will have core focus and specialist market knowledge i.e. by industry, by job function or by geographic location and will have built up good contacts with businesses and candidates to find the right person for the right role. Don’t feel you need to limit yourself to one agency; another with the same focus may have different contacts!
Are you kept informed? The recruiter will provide you with job descriptions, companies they have submitted your CV to, any interview information and once a job offer has been made, the terms of employment
Concerned about your privacy? Recruiters owe you a duty of discretion and will not disclose information about you without your consent and will check with you before they submit your CV to a potential employer
How much does it cost? Its FREE to candidates, the client company will either pay a finders fee or a %, and most agencies will protect this investment by offering a rebate system for permanent positions. You should be informed of any charges the agency may make for any additional services or goods they provide i.e. CV writing services.
Recruiters are regulated in the UK by The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) and follow guidelines for standards, ethics, communication and accountability. Look for the REC logo on your agency website or visit www.rec.co.uk to search for one in your area.
