Job Vacancy: Principal Mechanical Engineer

Principal Mechanical Engineer required for a large blue chip company within the nuclear sector .

Overall Purpose of the Job :
To provide technical excellence and expertise across projects including quality assurance, health and safety, working to budgets and timescales.
Fulfil the role of Bid Manager or Technical Manager on designated projects.
Take responsibility for specific work scope as delegated by the design manager.
Undertake activities in addition to the job description as designated by line management.
Meet objectives as designated.

Job Profile:
Knowledge & Understanding
Strong theoretical & practical knowledge; keeps up to date with new technologies and their application to BNS work
Develops sound solutions without guidance
Selects cost effective and timely solutions when assessing current technologies
Leads idea selection and innovation within known boundaries

Practical Application:
Can lead a team of multi-discipline personnel, inputting wide experience
Determines most appropriate solution when faced with conflicting information or not all the facts
Achieves beyond set tasks when asked
Allocates tasks, checks achievement against expectations & gives constructive feedback

Leadership & Management:
Recognises and responds to commercial pressures ensuring value for money is always achieved
Sets own budget and continually analyses Profit and Loss performance
Introduces improvements to existing levels of service
Schedules own project/task & controls resources to meet budget and time
Encourages independent problem solving, full ownership removing barriers where necessary

JobDescription:
Must have an aptitude for understanding other disciplines including Nuclear Process requirements and the ability to communicate well with FE Analysts.
Experience of Nuclear waste containers will be an advantage.
The candidate should have a good working knowledge of fabrication techniques in order to develop design solutions with potential suppliers.
Role will include Establishing the tasks required to meet the project requirements in conjunction with the client and provide cost/timescale information and subsequent progress reporting. Providing design solutions for the nuclear industry and coordinating the production of:
Design Schemes
Design Proposal Drawings
Detail Drawings
General Assemblies
Structural analysis of equipment using third party specialists (sub-contractor).
Production of Task Specifications (for performance trials)
Functional Specifications
Technical Reports and Studies
Design Justification Reports
Identifying or responding to task variations through formal change control.
Able to take responsibility for delivery of multi-discipline work package to programme, budget and required quality.
Able to manage teams of Mechanical Engineers / Designers and undertake checking and approval of Mechanical deliverables.
Has working knowledge and experience in applying relevant EH&S issues as required by legislation (and applicable Directives).
Has participated in Design Risk Assessments / Design Reviews.
Understands requirements for CE marking
Has working knowledge of AutoCAD.
